Cromars Scoops Up Best Scottish Menu Award 2025

Cromars Classic Fish & Chips has won Best Menu at the Scottish Fish & Chip Awards 2025.

The Market Street eatery, founded in 2013, had been shortlisted in three categories and also earned a Highly Recommended accolade for Best Fish Supper (East) — one of only three venues to do so. The team previously took home the regional Best Fish Supper (East) title in 2023.

Cromars hit international headlines in October when popstar Justin Bieber took to social media after ordering from the shop during his stay in St Andrews for the Dunhill Cup, which catapulted the local favourite into the wider public eye.

In a press release, owner Wendy Napthine-Frame said: “It’s been an unbelievable month for Cromars — from quietly doing what we love here in St Andrews to suddenly being thrust into the global spotlight.”

The awards ceremony was held at the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in Glasgow on 10 November. Speaking on the night, Napthine-Frame added: “These awards mean the world to us. It’s recognition of our team’s hard work, commitment, and passion for delivering the very best service and menu to every customer, every day.”

Originally from Peterhead — the UK’s biggest fish landing port — Napthine-Frame grew up in a fishing family and says she has “fish running through her veins,” according to the Cromars website.

“We’re incredibly proud to be recognised for our menu — from our fresh, angel-cut haddock to seasonal specials and handmade sides. And to be Highly Commended for Best Fish Supper in the east of Scotland is just brilliant — it’s such a competitive category,” said Napthine-Frame.

The website describes the owner’s “reputation for serving up only the finest quality food” as “fierce,” adding: “We are no ordinary chippy. Indeed, we are a good Scottish chippy, twice voted ‘the best in the business in Scotland.’”

Napthine-Frame also paid tribute to her staff and loyal customers: “We make everything fresh to order, using local produce wherever we can, to ensure top quality, great service, and unbeatable flavour. A huge thank you to everyone who voted for us — and to our amazing team. This is for them.”
