Ones to Watch: Events This Week

`From the serious to the sublime: what to do, where to go, and why …

BPM | Blanc (14 March)

For their penultimate event of the year, BPM Music Collective will be throwing their first ever Blanc Party, an ‘all-white party’ that promises to transform the Vic into ‘a fever dream of white snow’. Attendees are invited to don their best all-white attire for a night of Hip Hop, RnB, Grime, Afrobeats, Amapiano, Jungle and UK Garage tunes supplied by their eternally stellar DJ lineup. Tickets cost £7.

On The Rocks Launch Party (17 March)

Head down to the Byre on Friday for a night of live music, art, drinks, and dancing to kick off this year’s On The Rocks festival, which will take place over the course of next week (14-23 March). The UK’s largest student-run arts and culture festival, each year On The Rocks brings an immense range of music, theatre, and arts events into town. Whether it’s a play or a craft workshop you’re interested in, the festival is not to be missed, and the free launch party is a great place to start.

Music Society Open Mic Night (19 March)

On Sunday, the Music Society will be hosting their inaugural open-mic concert at Sandy’s Bar. The concert promises to be a relaxed end to the week, with informal performances from a diverse range of St Andrews’ most talented student musicians. Free to attend, the group will be collecting donations for Music in Hospitals & Care at the event.

St Andrews Fight Night (21 March)

Twenty of St Andrews’ finest sportspeople have spent the past two months undertaking intense boxing training. Next Tuesday evening, they will take to the ring in Kinkell Byre to fight … purely for the entertainment of a roaring, prosecco-fuelled, black-tie clad crowd. A night of raucous fun certainly awaits. Boxing, music, drinking, and dancing: what more could you possibly want from a random Tuesday in March? Standard tickets cost £45.

The Jonny Wookey Memorial Varsity Game (**date changed to 4 April**)

If Fight Night leaves you with a craving for more high-stakes sports entertainment, join the St. Andrews Typhoons next Thursday for their varsity ice hockey match against the Edinburgh Eagles. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the annual match, founded in memory of founding member Jonny Wookey. Sponsored by The Rule, the evening promises ‘high-intensity ice hockey, cheap pints, and an afterparty to match’.
