Storm Amy Halts Dunhill Championship

The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship has suspended all golf play today, Saturday 4 October, after Storm Amy, which has brought torrential rain and winds gusting up to 60mph to St Andrews.

Tournament officials confirmed the suspension of play for all golf scheduled on Saturday shortly after 2:30pm. The third round remains scheduled to go ahead Sunday morning: “All golf played over the three courses on Saturday, 4 October, has been cancelled,” read a post from the Championship’s X account. “The third round will be played on Sunday 5 October, as a two-tee start over all three courses between 09:00 and 11:23.”

The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is one of the most distinctive events on the DP World Tour calendar, combining a professional tournament with a celebrity professional-amateur format. A field of 168 players competes across three historic courses —   the Old Course at St Andrews, Carnoustie, and Kingsbarns — for a total prize fund of $5,000,000. Each pair plays one round on each of the three courses over the first three days. After the cut, the final round is held at the Old Course in St Andrews.

Saturday’s suspension followed an already disrupted Friday, when rain and high winds repeatedly interrupted play during the second round. With conditions worsening under Storm Amy, organisers said strong gusts made it impossible to keep balls stationary on the greens, leaving them little choice but to halt play entirely.

Forecasts for Sunday suggest a return to calmer conditions, with hopes that the third round can be completed on schedule and that the tournament will finish as planned.

The scheduled fireworks display is expected to go ahead “weather conditions permitting,” this evening at 8:25pm over the Old Course, according to a Facebook post from Dunhill Links.
