External Investigation Into Rector Launched

An independent external investigation regarding the “role and recent actions” of newly elected University Rector, Stella Maris, is to be commissioned by the University’s Court.

A special session was called on December 15 in order to answer questions that were raised concerning the Rector’s recent email to all members of the university community. Court is the university’s most senior governing body, which usually meets every quarter to determine “all aspects of strategic planning and the management of resources” at St Andrews.

As well as meeting to answer these questions, Court “recognised the Rector’s right to freedom of speech and also noted the Rector’s message had been welcomed by some students, staff and alumni”.

The results of the investigation will be reported in early 2024.
