A Night At The Silo
Excitement buzzed through the air as St Andrews students gathered at the Madras South Street bus station, dressed to impress in their most eye-catching rave attire. The crowd shimmered with a kaleidoscope of rainbow Pit Vipers, sparkly outfits, funky hats, and accessories — each ensemble more creative than the last. As always, Szentek Silo delivered on its promise of an unforgettable experience. The night was alive with high-energy beats, and the dance floor pulsed with nonstop movement, which combatted the brisk chill of the industrial Cupar Grain Silo venue. The Silo provided a unique setting for the event and was transformed into a pulsating hub of light and sound. Its industrial aesthetic offered a striking contrast to the vibrant art installations and the energy of the crowd.
The event kicked off at 10pm, with the crowd pouring in, buzzing with excitement, and ready to dive headfirst into the night’s festivities. What followed was a nonstop rager, fueled by pulsating beats and a charged atmosphere that kept everyone moving well into the early hours. One of the most unique aspects of the Szentek Silo experience is its BYOB policy, making it stand out among other events in St Andrews. Rather than being offered typical bar service, guests were allowed to bring their own drinks to the event, which led to some particularly creative concoctions. Attendees arrived armed with colourful, DIY cocktails stored in distinctive 1.5-litre bottles — everything from neon-hued mixes to more experimental, mysteriously potent blends that hinted at all sorts of exciting possibilities.
Beyond the music and drinks, the different art installations played a massive role in setting the tone for the night. Szentek's commitment to creativity was evident in the eclectic and evolving display of interactive, funky artworks scattered throughout the venue. These installations weren’t just passive displays — they were meant to engage the crowd and create an immersive experience that transformed the Silo into something almost otherworldly. What stood out was their recycling and repurposing of different materials into fun new designs like a lanyard consisting of strung-up CDs and a giant hanging octopus made of paper and tinfoil. A highlight was the side room, off the dance floor, which they had decked out in bean bags for event-goers to take a break before getting back on the dance floor.
Food was another major highlight, with catering provided by Lo’s Tacos, a beloved student-run business that provides the only Mexican food offerings in St Andrews. Lo’s Tacos served up a selection of their signature birria tacos and quesadillas, each bite packed with satisfying warmth and flavour — perfect for warding off the chilly evening air. After hours of dancing, chatting, and exploring the silo grounds, these flavorful bites were the ideal remedy for any hunger that might have crept in.
The food, art, drinks, and music weren’t just isolated elements of the night — they all came together to create an experience that was truly unique to Szentek Silo. Whether you were there for the beats, creative energy, or just the chance to connect with friends and fellow students, the event delivered a vibrant, unforgettable atmosphere. The Szentek Silo event continues to define itself as a must-attend event for anyone in St Andrews, and each year it seems to raise the bar just a little bit higher.
