A second car has crashed into the Kinness Burn since the start of this year, following a spell of cold weather and icy road conditions.
On Thursday morning at 11:50am, police were called to the scene of a car crash on Kinnessburn Road. A spokesman for the police reported: “Around 11:50am on Thursday, February 11, we received a report of a one-vehicle crash on Kinnessburn Road in St Andrews.”
The car crashed off the road into the Kinness Burn, landing on its roof. The driver escaped unscathed and no one else was injured.
The road remains closed, while the police arrange for the vehicle to be recovered.
This is the second time that a car has crashed off the road at this location and into the Kinness Burn this year. On 7 January, a BMW smashed through the barriers that were in place at the side of the road. This incident involved a member of University staff.
Speaking about this series of events, one local resident tweeted: “Gosh, just a few weeks after a car skidded across Kinnessburn Road and ended up in the Kinness Burn in St Andrews, yet another car has taken the plunge”.
