St Andrews Student Kate Mowatt Passes Away at 20
Principal Sally Mapstone addressed students and staff in an email on 25 May, 2020 to confirm the death of Kate Mowatt, a second-year chemistry and psychology undergraduate student.
Principal Mapstone said of Kate Mowatt, “I know that Kate’s loss will be so deeply felt by her friends in St Andrews, who she supported, and who supported her, and to whom she was an intelligent, honest and direct person, and always generous and thoughtful.”
Kate’s death was unrelated to the Coronavirus pandemic.
The 20-year old was born in Dorset and grew up on the Isle of Arran.
Principal Mapstone said in the email:
“She had an enduring love of the outdoors, walking, sailing, and especially kayaking, in which she was a skilled and experienced enthusiast.”
“To those who knew her, she had a creative and inquisitive spirit, and enjoyed drawing, crafts, knitting and crochet. She loved her dog Spoons.”
She continued, “Our thoughts are with Kate’s family, especially her parents Beth and Chris, her sisters and brothers, and the friends she made in St Andrews, at this hugely difficult time.”
Kate’s funeral will be held in private due to current social restrictions, with plans for a memorial event to take place once they are lifted.
