St Andrews Students’ Association has established a crowdfunder to raise money for charities dealing with the impacts of coronavirus.
The Students’ Association Sabbatical Officers are raising money for National Emergencies Trust and Tayside Health Fund, a charity which supports NHS Tayside hospitals and services.
Donations to Tayside Health Fund will support local NHS hospitals and services in NHS Tayside and those who donate can specify what they would like their donation to go towards, whether that be a particular ward, department, service of facility within NHS Tayside.
Donating to a general fund means that a variety of services will benefit. These include buying extra items for patients to make their visit more comfortable, supporting major projects such as a new unit, an extension or facility upgrade, introducing new ways of delivering care, supporting new medical research or providing additional support to patients in the community.
The National Emergencies Trust is running a Coronavirus Appeal and will be working with a wide range of organisations to ensure money raised is distributed to local charities who can help those in need amidst the pandemic.
Collectively, over £300 has already been raised by the crowdfunders, with the NET appeal reaching 64 per cent of its £200 target and the Tayside Health Fund exceeding its £200 goal.
The Sabbatical Officers told The Saint “While it often seems like this Coronavirus is overwhelming, it’s important to remember that all of us can help out in small ways. We’re doing that by raising money for our local NHS and the National Emergencies Trust, to help them fight the physical and economic effect of the virus”.
