Chinese scholarship program announced

The University will be offering up to 40 scholarships to Chinese students as part of a new agreement with the China Scholarship Council, it has been announced.

Students will be selected from China’s top 200 universities for the new programme.

Up to 30 new scholarships per year will be granted to full PhD students, who will then graduate at the University of St Andrews. A further 10 students will be given the chance to so research in St Andrews but still graduate in China.

The council will cover all maintenance and living expenses for up to four years of a PhD.

Recruitment for the scholarships will begin immediately, with interviews taking place in January 2016 for entry later in that year.

The secretary general of the council visited the University on Saturday 19 September to officially sign the agreement.

The University’s director of admissions, Julie Ramsay, welcomed Dr Liu to St Andrews. She said: “This collaboration supports the brightest minds from China to further their studies at the University of St Andrews and reinforces the strong and important links between St Andrews and China.”
