£1m donation establishes new scholarships in St Andrews

Photo: http://www.charterhouse.co.uk/assets/images/team/large/Team_pic_b11.jpgGordon Bonnyman, a former St Andrews student, has donated £1m which will create two new scholarships.The donation, which forms part of the University’s 600th Anniversary Fundraising Campaign, intends to provide at least £20,000 per annum to cover tuition fees and living costs for two new research postgraduates in the arts.

Mr Bonnyman, who graduated from St Andrews in 1966, is the Executive Chairman of Charterhouse Capital Partners.

St Andrews Principal, Louise Richardson, said she was “delighted” by Mr Bonnyman’s donation, adding: “A major focus of our campaign is to attract and support the best students irrespective of financial means.”

Professor Dina Iordanova, University Provost expressed her hopes that the donation would strengthen St Andrews’ reputation, commenting: “It will assist us in ensuring that the humanities at St. Andrews, ranked among the top in the world, keep working to global standards of excellence.”
